Aris signs veteran Michalis Kakiouzis

Aris BSA has signed one of the emblematic Greek players of the last decade, veteran forward Michalis Kakiouzis, to shore up its front line. Kakiouzis (207, 33) returns to Greece after seven seasons abroad in which he reached the Final Four of the Euroleague four times with two different teams. He arrives to Aris from Efes Pilsen Istanbul where he averaged 6.4 points and 3.0 boards in 10 Euroleague games last season. Kakiouzis and Aris signed a one-year deal.

Kakiouzis is one of the most decorated Greek players ever. He came up with Ionikos New Philadelphia and made his debut in the Greek second division during the 1992-93 season. In summer of 1995, he moved to AEK Athens and played there through December 2002, when he was signed by Montepaschi Siena. He spent three seasons in Siena, reaching the Final Four in the first two. He then moved to Spain to play two seasons with FC Barcelona, making the Final Four in the first of those. He also played one season with Cajasol of Seville in Spain before spending the last one with Efes. Along the way, Kakiouzis has won a national title in three countries - Greece, Italy and Turkey - as well as cup titles in three - Greece, Turkey and Spain. In addition, he won the 2000 Saporta Cup with AEK. As captain of the Greek national team, Kakiouzis won a gold medal at the 2005 European Championships and silver at the 2006 World Championships.
